Situated just outside a quiet village, this traditional farmer’s dwelling provides relaxing accommodation and an excellent base for exploring Hungary’s Great Plain (Alföld).

The cottage, known locally as a tanya, was built in the 1930s using traditional methods: thick cob walls (mud & straw), whitewashed, heavy timbers and a thatched roof ensure the building is solid and well insulated.

Set in over 5,000 m2 of private garden, bordered by fields and grazing land, the cottage is entirely self-contained and private. There are fine views across the surrounding farmland and over the famous Kiskunság National Park.

The holiday home is ideal for couples and families to relax and enjoy the space and natural environment of the Hungarian puszta.

If you desire peace and quiet, a slower pace of life and a chance to see rural life as it was then the location is perfect.

The single story cottage has been recently modernised, using local materials where possible, to create a clean and simple interior. Above average size rooms well furnished in traditional style, make the house a relaxing environment. There is one double bed, two singles and a large sofa bed.

At the centre of the cottage is the spacious kitchen with a four person dining table. There is a white county-style fitted kitchen, with hob, oven, dishwasher and fridge/freezer and a wide range of new crockery, cutlery and utensils for all your cooking needs.

Off the kitchen there is a large sitting room with large oak sofa-bed and armchairs. A Hungarian-style wood burning stove will warm you on chilly evenings.

A corridor leads from the right of the kitchen to a large bathroom decorated with country-style terracotta tiles. There is a modern shower, WC and sink, plus an automatic washing machine. At the corridor end are two bedrooms. The main bedroom has a lovely high pitched ceiling with dark wooden cross beams and a window facing east with views across the fields. There is a comfortable double bed with side tables. The second bedroom overlooks the garden and has two simple pine beds with comfortable mattresses, suitable for adults and children. Both rooms have quality oak-style laminate floor.

Tips Owner:
Benedek Tanya’s central location makes it an ideal base to explore the Central and Southern Great Plain.

Local sights include fine provincial capital of Kecskemét, the beautiful university town of Szeged and Kalocsca the centre of the Hungarian paprika trade. The river Tisza is worth a visit, so is Bugac for its internationally famous horse shows and Ópusztaszer the national memorial museum.

Budapest is easily reachable for a day trip both by car and train (from Kecskemét or Szabádszállas).

Within an hour’s drive there are four wonderful thermal bath and spa complexes. Nearby there are plenty of horse riding or trap driving opportunities at local ranches.

Village
The holiday cottage is just outside Fülöpháza a typical Hungarian village with a shop, pub, post office and doctors.

Practicalities
The nearest town of Kerekegyháza, just 6km drive, has all the facilities you will need on a short stay.

Kecskemét is a 15 minute drive (to the centre 30mins) and has an excellent range of large supermarkets on the outskirts. The town centre has many excellent fashion shops, cafes, restaurants, a cinema and a theatre.
