Omschrijving:
Fascinerend en bijzonder vakantiehuis, op 10 meter van het Lago Maggiore (Maggiore meer), op het eiland Isola Superiore Pescatori. Dit huis bestaat uit 2 mooie appartementen, één op de gelijkvloerse verdieping en het andere op de tweede verdieping, voorzien van ondermeer een balkon met een prachtig uitzicht over het meer.

Het Isola Superiore Pescatori maakt deel uit van de archipel van de Isole Borromee, op het Lago Maggiore en is het enige dat permanent bewoond wordt. Het eiland is 350 meter lang en 100 meter breed en heeft een klein bewoond centrum met typische huisjes met meerdere verdiepingen (met lange balkons om de vis te drogen), een pleintje, pittoreske smalle steegjes, een weg langs het meer en één hoofdstraat. De 50 bewoners leven van de visvangst en het toerisme. Het beboste eiland is al sinds ten minste 700 jaar bewoond en men kan er lokale ambachtelijke voorwerpen bewonderen en kopen in de typische winkeltjes. Een aantal kenmerkende restaurants bieden uitmuntende gerechten aan, vooral op basis van vis. Langs beide lange zijden van het eiland zijn er kleine stukken strand.

Op het eiland is autoverkeer niet toegestaan. Men moet de auto parkeren op de publieke of private (gratis of betalende) terreinen in Stresa of in Baveno. Van daaruit zijn er dan prima verbindingen via de openbare veerdienst of met de taxiboats. De vriendelijke eigenaar kan bovendien de overbrenging van en naar het eiland organiseren met een motorbootdienst, prijzen al vanaf 10 euro (deze dienst moet vooraf aangevraagd worden).

De accommodatie, eenvoudig maar comfortabel, biedt niet alleen een prima verblijf, maar is verder ook een ideaal startpunt om de omgeving te bezoeken (per openbaar vervoer of met een gehuurde boot): de verschillende eilanden op het Meer en zijn attracties, de Villas, de riviera, de dorpjes, het natuur, het berggebied, etc.

The Isola Superiore also known as the Fishermen’s Island is certainly the most characteristic of the Borromeo islands on Lago Maggiore, owes its name to the activity of its inhabitants. Approximately 300 meters of land in the middle of the lake in a marvellous frame of the Alps, the fascination of this island lies in the archaic simplicity and the rustic candour of its houses. On the narrow alleys you will find restaurants, where to taste the local fish, bars, kiosks and the little shops. “It is a place that …enchants you with a thousand unknown fascinations and you feel in a state of rare sensuality and refinement” this is how Gustave Flaubert described this place that, throughout the centuries and in every season fascinated and still enchants tourists from all over the world.
The Island is connected to Stresa and Baveno by a regular public boat service and it is a good cross road for every kind of excursion: to reach the other islands (Bella and Madre), to visit the beautiful villas and gardens along the coast to get to the top of the mountain, also with a cableway to enjoy a marvellous view over the top of the Mottarone Mountain of 7 lakes (Maggiore, Orta, Mergozzo and 4 Lombard lakes) and the majestic Italian and Swiss Alps. Mottarone is equipped for winter sports. The villages surrounding offer traditional and cultural events as well as musical festival well advertised by the local tourist office.

How to arrive :
From Milan - Highway A8 Milano -Laghi, then A26 direction Gravellona Toce - Exit Baveno/Stresa
From Switzerland. S.S. 33 (Brig/Simplon Pass/Domodossola) exit Baveno/Stresa or S.S.32 (Bellinzona/Locarno/Baveno)
Park in Baveno, in one of the public parking area. To get to the island you have two different options:
By public boat of the Navigazione Lago Maggiore your destination is Isola Superiore dei Pescatori (time table available on the internet approx from 8.00 am to 7.00 pm).
By private taxi boat. The owners of the apartment can give you the telephone number of a shipman. With them you can fix time and place for the pick-up to take you directly in front of the apartment.
